The accuracy of the DEMs is crucial for reliable detection of the region of collapsed buildings. To evaluate the DEM created from the pre-seismic stereo images, a total of 138 CKPs were selected. These points include the building corner points and distinct ground points in the pre-seismic stereo images. The heights of these CKPs were determined from the DEM created from the pre-seismic stereo images and compared with the heights of the corresponding points on the pre-seismic topographic map. To evaluate the DEM created from the post-seismic stereo images, a total of 108 CKPs were selected. The heights of these points were determined from the post-seismic DEM and compared with the heights of their corresponding points calculated from the image coordinates using the RPC bundle adjustment with the affine bias compensation model. Table 3 shows the result of the RMS errors for these CKPs in the pre- and post-seismic DEMs. The table shows the maximum residual,
minimum residual, and RMS errors for the CKPs in the DEMs.
