Usually people identify Singapore with their distinctive Peranakan styled suits from the Singapore Airlines uniform. The Peranakan race refers to the descendents of Chinese and Malay parentage originated from Malaya or some parts of Java. They practiced Malay customs in the past to adapt to the culture in these early settlements and were passed down ever since. Baba was the name given to these male descendents while the females were called Nyonyas. The Kebaya is a traditional costume with long sleeved and beautifully decorated garment worn over an inner shirt.
