It is likely that HP heterosisis available in biomass sorghum
hybrids, but that must be tested due to the inherent differences
in producing these hybrids .In this situation, the pollinator parent is highly photoperiod sensitive and, thus,is in herently higher
yielding than most photoperiod insensitive parental lines.Because
the seed parents are low biomass producers,HP heterosis must be
tested based on PS hybrid performance relative to the PS pollinator
line. Additionally, tall stature is dominant in sorghum(Morgan and
Finlayson, 2000) thus at a minimum the superior height of biomass
pollinators should be preserved in these hybrids. The objective of
this research is to measure biomass HP heterosis in PS biomass
sorghum hybrids produced using grain sorghum seed parents and
PS biomass sorghum pollinators.
