Because a limiting aspect of sperm sorting is the current need for donor bulls to be located within a short distance of the sorting facility, if the use of FSF sperm in IVF is realized, the range of bulls from which sperm may be sorted could be greatly expanded. Moreover, the ability to re-freeze sorted sperm derived from cryopreserved semen without loss of fertilizing ability will allow IVF facilities to be located at a distance from the sperm-sorting laboratory.
