In author proposed a load balance ONU placement (LBOP) algorithm for both type of traffic to minimize the numbers of ONUs and load balancing among ONUs. The LBOP algorithm consist of two stages ONU placement and load balancing. In first stage, The network throughput can be improved by by direct inter-ONU communication. Yan Li et. al. [20] gives a novel hybrid WDM/TDM PON architecture supporting direct inter-ONU and a corresponding dynamic bandwidth allocation (DBA) protocol. The WDM/TDM PON architecture supporting direct inter-ONU communication based on novel arrayed waveguide grating AWG). The DBA protocol determines which ONU can send/receive data on bandwidth shared by other ONUs. For this a decentralized DBA protocol algorithm proposes which can maximize the network throughput and provide fairness among ONUs.
