Reading Project Guidelines
for English for Study Skills Course (1500113_2/2557)
You have acquired reading skills and strategies e.g. looking up meanings of new words from
a dictionary, skimming, scanning, identifying types of sentences and structures of reading passages
from the lessons.
In this course, you have to further prove your achievement in those reading approaches by
showing your understanding through a paper work and your oral presentation.
In so doing, you need to find a reading article on the topic of your interest and do the tasks
following the guidelines. You may work in pairs or groups of no more than four according to your
lecturer judgment.
Working steps for the students:
Step1: Work in pairs or a group.
Step2: Choose the article of your interest (The number of pages varied by the number of
students, basically one page per one student).
Step3: Read the article thoroughly and complete the Task Record Sheet
from Reading.
Step4: Find at least 10 unknown words from the article for each page and
complete the Vocabulary Record Form.
Step 6 While reading, draw out the main idea of each paragraph of the article.
Step8: Write a summary of the article in English
Step 7 Identify a type of the article.
Step 9 Prepare for the presentation (about 5-7 minutes) in front of class.
This reading project consists of 2 main parts, and the marks will be given to you based on the
following tasks:
Evaluation:
1. English Language Skill 20%
1.1 Vocabulary knowledge from Task Record Sheet 5%
1.2 Ability to draw out the main idea from each paragraph of the article 5 %
1.3 Ability to make a summary of the article 10%
