To assess the ovicidal properties of the extract, 15 gravid
female mites were released on a mature leaf (fourth leaf
from the top of tea plant) for 12 h for oviposition. Leaves
with 30 eggs were selected for treatment and these were
sprayed with different concentrations of clove oil using a
glass atomizer (constant pressure 2.5 kg/cm2). Hatching
success of eggs was determined 12 days after oviposition.
Each treatment was replicated ten times and, in all cases,
distilled water mixed with teepol was sprayed as control.
Observed egg mortality values were corrected using
Abbott’s formula (Abbott 1925).
