Preeclampsia occurs in 1–5% of all pregnancies, 10% of first pregnancies, and 20–25%of pregnant women with CHTN,
which is present in up to 22% of American women of childbearing age. CHTN affects 1% of pregnancies, and GHTN affects
5–6%.Approximately 30% of women have white coat HTN (i.e., elevated BP when in the healthcare setting without evidence
of HTN in BP that is measured in a nonhealthcare setting) in early pregnancy; the condition is not associated with increased
risk of adverse events
