I was sitting alone on the swing when Jean rode by. When she saw me, she swerved expertly into our front yard. I knew why she had done that. She wanted to show me her birthday gift. It looked nice, with a silver bell and a basket in front. She asked if I was bored, seeing that it was vacation time and both my parents worked. I shook my head and told her that I planned to use the holiday to transform the yard. I had already raked the fallen leaves that morning. Jean's eyes sparkled when she heard my plan to surprise my parents. When I told her I was going to weed the yard, she offered to help. Knowing that weeding was a backbreaking job. I gave her something easier to do. While I got rid of the weeds, Jean tackled the cobwebs on the porch and under the eaves.
