We conclude that the design of a library of benchmark problems
specifically for the storage yard operations would be helpful for further
research in this area and to enable smoother comparison of the
different methods. In the future, as container throughput increases
and more automated terminals are designed, the routing and
reshuffling literature is expected to grow. Also, publications
addressing integrated problems within the storage yard, as well as
across other areas of the terminals are expected to increase in the
near future. We identify the following new research avenues (RA):
