The WaveDREAM prototype is realized using a mezzanine concept: All analog electronics including the DRS4 chip and the ADCs are put on a mezzanine card (Fig. 5), while the remaining electronics are found on a carrier card (Fig. 6). For versatility, the carrier card prototype is realized in a VME form factor. As the board uses VME only for mechanical, power, and cooling purposes, future revisions can be implemented which are format-independent. Additional interfaces to industry standards such as the Advanced Telecommunications Computing Architecture (ATCA) could also be introduced
