In this work, T. atroviride SC1 was tested for the control of A. gallica and it was demonstrated that the preventive application of this fungus on bark mulch can prevent A. gallica infection in strawberry plants. Trichoderma spp. are present in nearly all soils; they are the most studied fungal biocontrol agents and some of them have been commercialized as biofungicides, biofertilizers or soil amendments. The antifungal properties of these beneficial microbes have been known since the 1930s. By combining the positive effects of coniferous barks with the beneficial activity of Trichoderma spp., it may be possible to obtain even stronger suppression of soil-borne phytopathogens.
