METHODS
A case study with data collection from medical/nursing records
of a child in an ICU of a public cardiology referral hospital in
São Paulo, Brazil, on the first post-operative day. Nursing diagnoses
from NANDA-I(1) and interventions, using NIC(2), were then
proposed by three nurses with at least one year of experience in
pediatrics. Two were cardiology nurse specialists and one was an
ICU nurse specialist, two with a master’s degree; all were familiar
with the referenced nursing terminologies. Similar to a previous
case report(3), and despite the fact that nursing should view the
patient and family in a holistic manner, the results of this case
study were based entirely on the physiological responses of the
child. This was not the desired outcome; unfortunately, information
related to psychological, behavioral, social, and family factors
were not described in the medical or nursing records.
