As part of the preservation of these two species of significant heritage value, the Park implements methods aimed at evaluating population movements (migration-colonisation, demographic trends). Census campaigns on Alpine ibex and chamois populations are regularly organised in the Park.
In addition to contributing to our knowledge of the biology of the species, these hoofed animal censuses also help give us a better understanding of issues such as the risks of disease transmission between domestic and wild species, and help to identify zones where disturbances (skiing, air transport) may pose problems...
