RESULTS
Eighty-two individuals were enrolled (29 children and 53
adults); 4 HIV-infected individuals (4.7%) were excluded from
the study.20 Two children with symptoms were referred for
further investigation and excluded from the analysis based on
abnormal chest radiographs. The primary outcome measures
and patient characteristics are summarised in table 2. The mean
M tuberculosis contact score was significantly higher in children
than in adults; 93% of children reported a high M tuberculosis
contact score (>4) compared with 42% of adults. In 55.2% of
children the tuberculosis index case was the parent or primary
caregiver.
