Dear Friend,
I hope your day has begun well and that you enjoyed the rain a few days ago and the break it brought us from the heat.
I am writing to say that you have been in my prayers lately and my comment above about the rain is not random. I know what a long season this has been for you. Trying, painful, discouraging, all together mixed with growth, relief and joy along the way. It has been dry, like a desert. It hasn’t been easy for you, but it has been necessary. Of course, the necessity of such times is often beyond our ability to understand. And this also is okay because then, only then perhaps, are we drawn into prayer and deeper fellowship with God and are refreshed as with badly needed rain. I see that as a result of all this you have grown steadier in your walk with Him. You have become a better husband and father, which I know is your great desire. You may not recognize this, but it is evident to me. I think It would be good for you to take some time in the next few days to reflect and remember back from where you’ve come from. I mean, think back to how God saved you, called you to Himself, led you to your wife and to the church, etc. Because God is always faithful and because He does all things out of His great love for us, I am excited as to what God is doing and will continue to do in you and through you.
In praying for you I wanted to share this verse with you: Psalm 147:10, 11, “His delight is not in the strength of the horse, nor his pleasure in the legs of a man, 11 BUT THE LORD TAKES PLEASURE in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.” I want you to notice first and foremost that God takes pleasure in you. He delights in you, in your heart towards Him. He rejoices over the work He has begun in you and will continue to do until it is finished. I hope you feel His joy and delight toward you these next few days, even at this moment. Also, notice that it is not in your strength and wisdom and efforts that God takes pleasure. Your strength and wisdom and perseverance are all part of what He has given you to use, but it is the heart He is forming within you that is of greater interest to Him. So, continue to hope in God’s never-changing, always-abounding love towards you and your family, and pray always, because It is how the rain of the presence of God will fill your soul.
