The following deployment scenario has been assumed. The
SAE network will be installed during a period of ten years
(2010-2019), using the rollout percentages given above for
each area. The model area is characterized by a total land area
of 338 000 km2 and a population of 73 million. Of these, 25%
of the people live in, or close to, densely built urban areas
(area 1900 km2), about 58% in suburban areas (36 000 km2),
and the final 17% in rural areas (300 000 km2). This
population will be served with the BTS network described
above, with the assumption that the deployment of the
network takes place gradually, starting in the major cities and
continuing to the less densely populated areas during the tenyear
period. The coverage network will be installed during the
first three years, after which only capacity BTSs will be
added.
