2.1. Mangrove and sediment characteristics
The population structure of the mangroves was measured with the use of four 25-m2 quadrats at four sites. Plant height and density, species composition and number of seedlings (b50 cm), saplings (N50–100 cm), juveniles (101–150 cm) and adults (151–200, N200–500, N500 cm height) were recorded. The general health of the mangroves was recorded and if 100% of the above-ground material was brown, then the tree was described as dead.
