But the composition of evolved gas in each mass loss steps cannot be observed only by TG. On the other hand, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) results can be used to evaluate the functional groups and prove the existence of some emissions. However, TG combining with FTIR is a useful tool in dynamic analysis as it monitors continuously both the time dependent evolution of the gases and the mass of the non-volatile minerals/materials. It has already been used widely to investigate the thermal behavior of minerals and polymers thermal degradation, as well as to forecast the hazardous emissions that may be produced
in the case of major accidents [28,29]. But very limited studies were
conducted using TG combining with FTIR on the thermal analysis
of coal-derived pyrite.
