The percentage of Ca(OH)2 in CCR was investigated using thermogravimetry/differential thermal analysis (TG/DTA, Netzsch-409). A 15-mg sample of ground particles smaller than 150 um was heated to 600°C in an alumina crucible under a N2 atmosphere at a rate of 5°C/min. Under these conditions portlandite or Ca(OH)2 dehydrates in the temperature range of 400-620°C. Differential thermal analysis data was calibrated by analyzing varying amounts of general purpose reagent (GPR) grade Ca(OH)2 mixed with Al2O3 (Cardoso et al. 2009).
