Being a multicultural state, Singapore has various traditional dresses pertaining to the four main ethnic groups; namely the Chinese, Malay, Indian and Eurasians. Chinese men usually wear embroidered shirts with Chinese collar as a top, while Chinese women wear “cheong-sam” which is otherwise known as “qi-pao”. Qi-pao originated from the Qing Dynasty and the design is rather simple. Figure-fitting with embellishments around or near the collar were its key characteristics. Women normally wear these costumes for formal or festive events.
