Momiji is one of the older tengu, having been around at least 600 hundred years. At the top of her class among White Wolf Tengu, Momiji is definitely noteworthy in tengu society. From the start, Momiji was naturally qualified for one of the favorite jobs among White Wolf Tengu, which is guarding the mountain, a job she was eager to take. Momiji started out with acute senses, having eyes like a hawk, and was accepted into the mountain's patrol for that reason alone.
Training for her job only further proved her abilities. Momiji begun training for patrol duty using swords, a weapon she'd always been interested in, and she turned out to be quite good at using them. She originally started her training with just a short sword, but the more she trained, the stronger she got, and the bigger the sword she could handle. Eventually she ended up spending a bunch of her savings on having a sword forged unique to her, a massive scimitar. She named it "Swirling Rage" (激怒渦巻くUzumaku Gekido), after the movements of maple seeds on the wind.
Momiji's shield is also special, as it's one she's had for a couple hundred years, and eventually painted her insignia on it, the maple leaf.
Momiji cares for her her sword and shield with quite a lot of care, polishing them fairly often. They still look like new after hundreds of years of use.
Momiji eventually became one of the top patrol tengu of the mountain, and is often one of the first to meet any intruders of the mountain. During the Moriya Shrine Incident, she was even sent to watch the heroines battle the shrine goddesses, using her power of keen sight to watch the battle from several kilometers away so that she wouldn't get spotted.
Momiji's other passion is shogi, and when she isn't patrolling the mountain, she's usually playing a game of it, and is quite an expert. In fact, Momiji has even invented her own version of the game, Tengu Grand Shogi, which has grown to become a popular variant on Youkai Mountai
