Internet cafés, also known as cyber cafés, have become extremely popular in Thailand. Although there are no statistics available on the number of internet cafés in the nation or their overall market value, various sources indicate that they are ubiquitous in Thailand (Brash & Bush, 2010), and there is evidence for high rates of internet usage at cyber cafés among those of particular demographic groups. A recent study of health information searching by Thai students found that 54% accessed information at an Internet café (Kitikannakorn & Sitthiworanan, 2009), and cyber cafés in Thailand are often filled with young male gamers (Lewis, 2006).
