According to the National Health Services, Food Safety, and Food Quality
(SENASICA), Mexico beat the record for exports by sending to the United States about
1.1 million calves for fattening, against 800 thousand in sales last season. Consistent with
SAGARPA the latest export, which ran from September 2009 to August 2010, the
livestock sector earned approximately $ 482 million pesos (SAGARPA, 2010).
All the livestock shipments are made from 21 Mexican states. The State of
Chihuahua contributes with 50% of the shipments, followed in importance by Sonora,
Tamaulipas and Coahuila.
Among the factors accounting to reach these export records the first one is that
farmers and authorities apply more health care complying with the standards required by
the international market in combating bovine tuberculosis and brucellosis.
