The second part of the model shows the relationship between change interventions and organizational target variables. The model shows two sets of target variables. The first is vision variables, which are the underlying organizational values, beliefs, and principles that guide management decisions and provide the foundation for the purpose and mission of an organization. The second types of target variables are identified as work setting variables, which are directly related to or influenced by OD interventions and vision variables. Work setting variables include policies, procedures, work rules, job descriptions, formal reporting lines, social factors, and communication patterns. In essence, these form the framework for organization structure.
