The decline in Ktree was greater
in both pine plantations with trees experiencing more than 50%
loss of tree conductance over the range of field water potentials
(dashed arrows in Fig. 5). Natural forests did not start losing Ktree
before 0.2 REW (Fig. 6). As a consequence, averaged over all species,
transpiration of trees growing in both natural forests declined
by 40–50% at soil REW = 0.05 and by 60–75% in both pine plantations
(Figs. 5 and 6)
