2.1. Plant material and preparation of the extract
Fresh, ripened fruits of wood apple were purchased from the
local market, Mysore. The pulp along with seeds was manually
separated, and then oven dried at 45 °C for overnight. The dried
materials were powdered using a blender. For the extraction,
20 g of sample was used at the desired concentration of hydro alco-
hol, temperature and solvent-to-liquid ratio as per the experimen-
tal plan. The pH was adjusted to 2 using diluted HCl and the
extraction was carried out in an orbital shaker for 5 h at
100 rpm. The extract was filtered through Whatman No 1 and
the filtrates were stored at À4 °C prior to analysis.
