Based on the general population of adolescents and considering the
high rates of suicidal ideation recorded as well as the lack of populationbased
studies addressing the risk of suicide and the degree of risk (low,
moderate and high) among the adolescent population in northeastern
Brazil, the aim of the present study was to identify the prevalence of
the risk of suicide among adolescents aged 10–17 years in the
Brazilian city of Recife and investigate the association between depressive
symptoms and the risk of suicide.
