Generation gaps are essentially 'information gaps' in that children have often had access to information and opinions that their parents did not while growing up.
Culturally, I did not have much of a challenge dealing with my parents because they were liberal and not made stupid by religion. Sure they had rituals and superstitions, but these made life fun and I still enjoy them to a certain extent.
The gap between my parents and myself grew larger as I entered adulthood and began to consume more and more information as they started to consume less and less. Fortunately, our relationship had always been one of me supplying the information and entertainment so it was not that big of a deal.
In the case of the generational gap between our kids and us, I don't think there is that big of one. My teenagers would probably think that we are old fashioned in many ways, but I also think that they are more conservative than I am in other instances.
In our case, I believe that there is not much of a difference in the information that we have access to as compared to the information our kids have access to. As a result, there is not as big of a gap between generations as when information disparity was much greater between people from different demographic brackets.
