In fact, bright colours are not only for little children - the human eye, no mztter what age, is programmed to detect shape,size,distance and movement, as well as colou,in order to collect information about the surrounddings - vital skill for survival. Colour is one from of sensory input that your brian uses to interpret important elements of your surroundings. Dark colours usually mean unsafe, while bright colurs, such as certain fruits, make us feel safer.
