To access skills progression over the study period, students were required to give three 5-minute presentations in front of two raters. These were timed to coincide with the beginning of each semester (week 1 and 11) and at the end of the study (week 20). Using a 15-item marking scheme developed from the presentation guidelines, presentation competence levels were scored for all the participating students on a 1-5 very bad to excellent scale. Two raters were needed in order to compare scores since one of the raters knew to which group the students belonged. However, correlation analysis between the raters showed a high degree of agreement, suggesting that knowledge of the group to which the students belonged did not bias the performance assessment.
