Donors’ requests regarding their donation could be an
attempt to draw attention to and redress the balance of
existing policies surrounding the donation of blood products
and body parts, which have been thoughtto favour the
needs of transplant patients over those of donors [32–34].
This has been most apparent in the calls for gay men to
have the right to be able to donate their blood, and more
recently, for pregnant women who have had sexual intercourse
with a gay man to be able to donate their cord
blood
