This film is an adaptation of Dodie Smith’s 1948 novel. It is directed by the first time feature director Tim Fywell and there are some lively performances from the main characters. The screenplay by Heidi Thomas has some very funny lines.
The plot is simple and the director has worked hard to remain faithful to Dodie Smith’s novel. The plot moves Quickly and a romantic sub-plot is very neatly introduced when the landlord of a castle dies and it is inherited by an American family. The American family have two extremely handsome sons and Mortmain, the main character, has two beautiful daughters.
