The pooled estimate from four RCTs (1–4) showed that there
was no evidence of association between discharging mothers within 48 hours after birth
versus later and neonatal readmissions (RR=0.91, 95% CI 0.49 to 1.71). Pooled analysis of
the three cohort studies (9,11,13) also showed no evidence of difference in risk of neonatal
readmissions
