STZ is an antibiotic produced by strain Streptomyces achromogenes. The chemical name of STZ is 2-deoxy-2-(3-(methyl-3-nitrosoureido)-D-glucopyranose) (Rizvi et al., 1986; Szkudelski, 2001). The compound is widely used as a diabetogenic in experimental animals related to both insulin-dependent and non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus (type 1 and type 2, respectively) (Arulmozhi et al., 2004; Nugroho, 2006).
