Results indicated that participants of both groups improved the service skill, but the participants of the ISTG (self-talk group) were much better than participants of the CG (control group).
When coaches deal with novice athletes it is recommended to teach them to use the instructional self-talk strategy, so as to perform quickly and correctly the skills.
In the present study, participants of the experimental group claimed that self-talk possible helped them to focus their attention to the key points of the skill so as to manage to improve it.
