Results
Fire was a persistent problem in both study sites. In February and March of 2001 most of
plots 7 and 1 were burned, destroying the traps and perches and temporarily removing grassy
vegetation. We rebuilt the perches and traps and continued to monitor these plots as before (see
below) because there was sufficient time to monitor recovery. In March 2002, however fires from
agricultural areas destroyed all three plots in PD (plots 1-3) and all observations, with exception of
seedling survival checks, were terminated at PD because there was not sufficient time to monitor plot
recovery.
