Table 2 provides a WSF matrix for the case study, where the
columns are the predominant sectors that use water in the study
region. This may be determined regionally by completing a regional
water audit or material flow analysis (MFA) as shown in Fig. 4. Each
row of the WSF-matrix corresponds to a major land use category in
the region where precipitation may be collected as part of the water
supply. Because these different land uses have a range of water
qualities associated with them due to both environmental and
anthropogenic influences, we can then use this matrix to assign an
appropriate quality of water to the appropriate demand. Note that
this table can be expanded or contracted as necessary and in view
of the type and quality of data that are available to the practitioner.
