It is interesting to note that neem and Prosopis which are some of the most popular and successful forest plantation species in the Sahel (Verinumbe,1983) also have such a promising future in the improvement of agricultural land. On the other hand, despite apparent superior qualities of Eucalyptus soil, it gave very low crops yield compared with other forest species. The result largely confirmed observations by Anon (1980) that Eucalyptus camaldulensis does not favour crop growth. The reasons for these observations need to be identified.
