Compared to friends who are similar to me, I prefer friends who have different things from me.
To begin with, I have to admit that lots of people tend to choose friends that have much in common with them, because they are easy to find and approach. Thus, their life may be more comfortable, without some awful conflicts.
However, there may be another angle to this point, that is, making various friends would make people's life more colorful, which I am calling on. I'll illustrate my viewpoint from three aspects.
Firstly, friends who hold different value system would provide us precious suggestions that we haven't thought of before, which would make us calm down and consider what we exactly want. Thus, we can weigh our decisions more wisely and the opportunity to regret would be decreased. For instance, when I was depressed in the past, I often consulted to my cousin , who was an artist. After listening all my complains, things about my endless essays or my future job, he always told me to be gratitude to life and value what I have already derived, which other friends would never say. Then I tried to enjoy every task I have to deal with and stopped thinking too much about the future. Gradually, I learned how to smile to life. I really appreciate having such an uncommon friend like him.
