In conclusion, this investigation has shown that additives such as a blowing agent did not
alter the mesoporosity, but reduced the bulk density of the material by creating pores in the
micrometer range. The use of kaolinite as a binder, however, changed the mesopore distribution
of the material. The total volume per unit mass was maintained in samples containing
metakaolinite. The pore volume at a diameter of 3.8 nm decreased by 50%, probably due to
pore blocking. There was instead a gain of pore volume in the diameter range of 20–80 nm
originating from interparticle voids. The results also show that ultrastable zeolites can be
subjected to rather extreme treatments without damaging the intracrystalline structure.
