The first 56 patients arrived at the Emergency Department of Changhai Hospital at about 8:05 a.m. of August 7, and a total of 118 patients arrived before 13:45 p.m. of August 8. All patients were sent to the hospital within 4 h of escaping from contact with the alkaline fluid. Eighty-two patients who complained of marked pain were administered tramadol hydrochloride tablets, and 14 patients whose burn area was greater than 5% TBSA were put on IV infusion for further treatment. The wound surface was rinsed with fresh water for 10–30 min and then sterilized with 0.05% chlorhexidine acetate solution. Partial thickness burn wounds were covered with silver sulfadiazine (SD-Ag), and the full thickness burn wound was covered with iodophor gauze and dressed with sterile gauze.
