•As we can see, in Bali dance performance is a means to periodically enact rituals that are essential to maintaining the cosmic balance between good and evil. Thus the performance effectively summons the good forces but also finds a way to accommodate evil forces to restore natural balance.
•Traditionally, the Balinese court had the responsibility of ensuring the continued performance of dramatic rituals for the sake of the spiritual well being of the kingdom. In both Java and Bali, the court is known as the “kraton.”
•Thus an elaborate performing arts tradition was developed for the sake of ritual efficacy (keeping the forces of chaos at bay). We can see similar traditions in other parts of Southeast Asia where courts upheld Indic traditions of royal power.
