The number of pre-washes affected the amount of dimensional
change and the definition of the severance (p 0.001; p 0.001,
respectively), although it did not affect the openness of the
severance or the amount of fraying that occurred in the severance
(Fig. 4). The specimens had been pre-washed 6 or 60 times before
the stabbing event, so they would be considered ‘worn’. Laundering
them again could cause further fibre degradation in the
damaged area, changing the clarity and dimension of the
severance.
