Since no
more than 3–4 weeks of SD induction was used, no chilling was
necessary (temperatures maintained above 15 8C throughout).
By avoiding chilling, the system has the advantage that
repeated SD floral induction periods can be intercalated in an
otherwise continuous LD regime, thus escaping the well known
inhibitory effect of chilling on subsequent flower induction (cf.
Guttridge, 1985).
