The pattern of regeneration from leaf explants as well as the different stages in the regeneration procedure on TDZ supplemented medium is shown in Fig. 2A–E. Regenerants developed within ten days of culture as globular protuberances on the surface of the leaf explants, which later gave rise to shoot-like and embryo-like structures (Fig. 2A–E). Interestingly, leaf explants also showed the simultaneous occurrence of both types of regenerants even in the absence of plant growth regulators. Further growth and spontaneous germination of these structures resulted in the development of complete plantlets (Fig. 2H and I). The scanning electron micrographs of explants collected during 2–4 week period of culture also showed the development of distinct globular structures loosely attached to the leaf surface (Fig. 2F) within 2–3 weeks, and the stages of organized development (Fig. 2G), after 4 weeks of culture.
