Hehe, finally did it… My first fanfiction in english… Sorry for poor grammar and stuff, I still learn~ And I feel embarrassed… >w< Hope you’ll like it…. But maybe a little warning I guess : as the title show it, it’s a MiKai (Miwa X Kai) fanfiction… no worries, there’s absolutely no explicit terms or situations (I feel enough embarrassed with a story like this), but if you dont like Shonen-Ai, please dont read.

_____________

The cheerily melody of the cellphone rang while Miwa Taishi tried to emerge from his sleep. His hand tried to find the device, and finally found it after a long minute. The flashy light of the screen dazzled him and he took another minute to read the message. “Happy Birthday !” That’s all. Well, why should we ask more from a cellphone announce ? “I know someone who always did like cellphones…” Miwa stood up, yawning and stretching, and let himself fell on his pillow. He already felt tired about today. He smiled everyday, cheering, teasing and joking with everyone to make them smile just once in the day. But curiously, each one of his birthdays was the contrary : tired, grumpy, slow-minded. Sometimes, I thought the reason was his birthday date itself : April, 1st. And the joy of April fools everywhere for the next 24 hours. It took several more minutes for Miwa to notice that his cellphone was still ringing. “Ah, just shut up already…” Finally, he decided to really get up. He yawned and streched once more and went to the bathroom, cacthing some clothes in his wardrobe. “Oh my… you have a horrible face today…” he said when he looked at the mirror. “This day gonna be a long day…”
He took his breakfeast alone. “Like usual, huh…” Miwa’s parents were divorced. Sometimes, his father returned just to take something and left. “Your mother is too absent” he said when he decided to divorce, some years ago. That was quite right, his mother was quite busy, with a work that forced herself to move across almost all the country. But when she was back, there was always a good atmosphere, a loving mother. She even took time to teach her son how to cook and some other useful things when he had to stay alone for a while. Miwa knew that this was not the real reason of the divorce. Yes, he knew it. It happened the day right before his birthday. When his father “forgot” the upcoming event and brought another woman at home. When the picture about his parents violently arguing, tears appaeared at the corner of his eyes.
“It’s so ironic” he tought, wiping his eyes. “Why am I so cheerful already… ?” Since that day, he never knew a good birthday anymore. Sometimes, his mother could come back at time, sometimes not. He finished his breakfeast, did the dishes, and prepared to go to shcool. But as his hand reached the door handle, he stopped, fixing an invisible point around the floor. “Oh damn, I dont want to go there today.” He threw his schoolbag away, and slamed the door. Anywhere, but not high-school today. But, unconsiously, he went to the “Underground Fighter” zone. Despite the intense sunny weather, this place was always dark and creepy.
“Oh, Miwa-kun ! It’s quite rare to see you around there ! ” When he heard these words, Miwa knew where he was. “Come on… I’m really stupid…”
“Whow,” Jun said, “You have a terrible face you know ? Usually, you’re more cheerful than that.”
“Thanks for telling the obvious. Now excuse-me, but I’ll leave.” Miwa replied, turning back. Suddenly, two arms caught his shoulders and brought him to Jun’s chest. He was close, too close. “Hm… Isn’t today someone’s birthday~ ?” He was so close that Miwa could feel his breath on his cheek. “Let me go, Jun. Let me go, or I’ll get angry.” Miwa tried to stay calm. He had to. “Heh, don’t get fire up like this. Just joking !” Jun said, releasing Miwa. “I don’t want to joke today, got it ?” And he left.
Miwa decided to go to high-school. “Guess I have no choice.” He stopped at home to take his bag and then went to Hitsue high-school. But he still didn’t want to attend at class. Carefully, he managed to reach the rooftoop, and laid down, using his hands and his schoolbag as pillow. The sky was pretty blue, with some softy clouds. The weather was warm. Too warm. Miwa took off his jacket, et put it on his schoolbag. “What is a "decent” birthday already… ?“ Slowly, he closed his eyes and slept.
How long did he sleep ? Miwa heard a very distant voice call him. "Oi, get up.” This voice… he knew it. He opened his eyes, and recognized his “best” friend, Kai Toshiki. Best friend ? Well, “childhood friend” could suit better. Miwa always tried to cheer Kai up when he came back, but never, ever, he saw Kai smile. Smile for him, actually. Always smiling to this little blue-ish puppy called Sendou Aichi. At this moment, Miwa felt a bit guilty. Aichi was a good boy, nice, polite, modest and timid. But… he was jealous. “Oi, are you just trying to listen to what I said ?” Kai asked.
“Oh. Not really.”
“…”
Miwa get off the ground to face Kai correctly. He liked Kai. And a lot. He always liked him. But Kai never paid any attention to him. When Kai was missing (when he got transfered in another school, in another town), it was the worst birthdays ever for Miwa. Well, Kai was not especially more kind for the occasion. But it was just his presence. “If you dont want me to be here, then just tell it.” Kai said suddenly. “What’s your problem ?”
“Nothing in particular…” Miwa replied, fixing the floor. “…”
“I guess you dont want to talk about it ?” Kai asked. That’s not the problem. Not at all. Miwa felt his tears coming, and didn’t try to prevent them. He cried. Cried like a child. He didn’t even try to keep some attitude. He also felt Kai’s reaction. He was calm and stoic as usual. “So… all the time, you smile to not show how sad you are ?” The only answer he got was an inaudible sound. “I’m so pathetic…” Miwa thought. He felt so… lonely. Kai was here, but so distant at the same time. During some minutes, a long silence took place, only broken with Miwa’s sobs. Suddenly, two arms embraced him. Kai, without saying a word, had embraced Miwa’s shoulders with a hand, and stroked his hair with the other hand. “Miwa… just dont keep all those feelings for you. I know I didn’t really act as a good friend. Not at all, actually. I always use you as a training thing for Cardfight-” but he felt he should stop.
“Miwa… can you just explain me ?”
Miwa tried to calm down, wiping his tears. He didn’t even know where to start. But he couldn’t talk. But he had to try. “…mind….”
“Hm ?”
“…Mind if we talk about that… later ?”
Kai smiled. “Sure.”
They both went to Kai’s home. Miwa didn’t have the will to protest. “I’ll make some chocolate. You like it with honey, right ?” Miwa nodded. Minutes later, the two boys drank without a word.
“…I hate my birthday.” Miwa said abruptly. Kai looked at him, surprised. “I’m sure you never noticed that. You never ever notice anything that doesn’t concern Aichi”. His voice was bitter. Way too bitter. “I’m always alone when comes my birthday. It’s way more painful when you know you have your parents, but they cant - or dont want to - say it to you.” Miwa paused. “And… when you left this city, that was the worst.” Kai observed his friend. Did Miwa had any idea about his feelings ? “I’m sorry… Taishi.”
That was the very first time that Kai called Miwa by his first name. “You know, I dont really like my birthday too. It’s really hard when you’re an orphan. I can understand your feelings.” He gazed Miwa’s reaction. He still had this painful face, almost crying. “Mi-… Taishi, wait a minute.” Kai went to his room and came back with a little box wrapped with beautiful yellow paper. He put the little present on the table, and sat down next to him. “Happy birthday, Taishi”. Miwa was stunned. He looked at the present, then at Kai, successively, during some seconds.
He suddenly embraced Kai, almost making him suffocate. “Ca-calm down, Taishi, I- cant… breath…” Miwa released him a little, but kept his arms around his friend’s shoulders. “Thank you… Toshiki.” Kai anwsered by putting his mouth in Miwa’s hair. “That’s right I like Aichi. I’m aware I’m not a great guy. Despite that, both of you are here for me. But you, Miwa, was always here. You’re always at my side. I often reject you, but still, you don’t give up. I did my choice.” Miwa didn’t want to notice that Kai called him “Miwa”, but he prefered that. Forthe first time of this day, Miwa smiled. A real smile.
