Owing to its high vapour pressure, VC released to the atmosphere is expected to exist almost entirely in the vapour phase. There are indications for wet deposition. VC has a relatively low solubility in water and has a low adsorption capacity to particulate matter and sediment. Volatilization of VC is the most rapid process for removal of VC introduced into surface waters. Half-lives reported for volatilization from surface waters range from about 1 to 40 h.
