5. Conclusion
Results in the work indicate that the reason for the non-russeting mutant of ‘Golden Delicious’ apple, ‘Feng Shuai’, not to russet may be related with its synthesizing enough endogenous CA in the peels during its early development stage. When exogenous CA solutions were sprayed at about 4 weeks after full bloom, the russeting was significantly inhibited in ‘Golden Delicious’ apples.CA application can stimulate total flavonoids biosynthesis but inhibit lignin accumulation at transcribe levels. Therefore, inhibi-tion of lignin biosynthesis by endogenous or exogenous CA couldbe an important event of russeting prevention of ‘Golden Delicious’apple.
