In order to measure the functional coverage of an EMR system and the extent of its use based on a list of twentyfour EMR functionalities (see Table 1), respondents were asked to indicate whether each functionality was available or not in their system, and if it was available,
whether or not they actually used it. They were also asked to indicate their level of satisfaction with each of these functionalities, on a scale of 1 (very dissatisfied) to 5 (very satisfied). The list of functionalities was developed from previous empirical studies on the actual use of EMR systems in primary care settings [10,44-48].
